This cognitive stimulation manual is a practical, versatile tool aimed at education, social care and healthcare professionals working with older adults, people with acquired brain injury and other vulnerable groups at risk of cognitive decline. Conceived as the natural follow-up to “Pon a trabajar tus neuronas. Manual de actividades cognitivas”, it builds on the authors’ teaching and therapeutic experience to offer proposals that can be easily implemented in individual or group sessions.

The book brings together around 100 activities and some 200 worksheets, organised into eight thematic sections: session openings, attention, memory, language, executive functions, perception, praxias and session closings. Each worksheet specifies the main cognitive function being trained, the mode of application, step‑by‑step instructions, required materials and suggestions for adapting the task to different levels of difficulty or participant profiles. This structure supports the planning of stimulation, rehabilitation or prevention programmes in day centres, rehabilitation units, residential homes, occupational centres and associations for people with cognitive difficulties or brain injury.

More than a simple collection of exercises, the book is a structured guide for intervention designed to fit smoothly into professional practice. Its activities not only train cognitive functions such as attention, memory or language, but also aim to strengthen participants’ self‑esteem, motivation and social interaction, encouraging meaningful and engaging group dynamics. The flexible approach trusts the professional’s judgment, allowing each activity to be tailored to the specific needs of users and the realities of different work contexts. As a result, the manual becomes a valuable resource for designing effective, motivating and inclusive cognitive interventions that contribute to participants’ well‑being and quality of life.

Too late to clean plastics up? guides students through an interdisciplinary journey to understand the environmental impact of plastic. Inspired by Rachel Hope Allison’s graphic novel, this didactical material combines reading, discussion, and hands-on activities to help learners explore key questions about pollution, ecosystems, and human responsibility.

Through both individual and collaborative tasks, as well as creative projects, students investigate the causes and consequences of plastic waste, analyse its effect on marine life and communities, and propose innovative solutions. Step by step, they develop essential skills for critical literacy, scientific inquiry, creativity, and social awareness, while strengthening their communication in English.

This booklet, that includes three units and designed within the PROMISED model, provides teachers with a ready-to-use and flexible framework that connects literature, STEAM education, and global citizenship. The material is adaptable to different teaching contexts and can be implemented not only in English but also through other languages, offering a versatile resource that supports innovation in bilingual and multilingual classrooms. It includes practical activities, digital resources, and assessment tools, all aligned with global sustainability challenges.

About the project

PROMISED is an Erasmus+ project led by the University of Burgos in collaboration with Howest University, Matej Bel University, the University of Granada, the CFIE of Burgos, and Kveloce. Its goal is to design and implement an innovative didactic model that integrates STEAM education, bilingual learning (CLIL), sustainability, and digital skills in secondary schools, promoting both the green and digital transitions in education across Europe, in order to address the needs of 21st-century learners and support schools in facing today’s educational challenges.

XI Jornadas de investigadoras de Castilla y León. La aventura de la ciencia y tecnología

This book compiles the abstracts of the presentations given at the 11th Conference of Women Researchers of Castilla y León, Spain: The Adventure of Science and Technology. This event was organized by the University of Burgos and held in Burgos on April 3-4, 2025, in collaboration with the Universities of León, Valladolid, and Salamanca.

The primary aim of this conference is to actively promote the visibility and recognition of women's contributions across STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. It also seeks to highlight the crucial role of women researchers and scientists to younger students.

The conference featured six senior speakers, all highly respected scientific figures nationally and internationally. They were joined by early-career researchers as well as undergraduate and master's students.

Presentations took three forms: oral, poster, and video, with all sessions livestreamed on YouTube. Beyond university participants, students from several Castilla y León high schools offering the Research/Excellence High School (BIE) also showcased their poster projects. This specialized program is designed for students interested in getting started in research and problem solving.

A key new feature of this latest edition was the Project Corner. This dedicated space highlighted research projects led by women and secured through competitive regional, national, and European funding calls. These projects underscore the scientific excellence and leadership capabilities of women researchers in Castilla y León in securing and managing research funds.

The Good Practices Manual presents the outcomes of the international Erasmus+ project ISA CULTURE: INTELLECTUALLY AND SOCIALLY ACCESSIBLE – On the way to equality: culture as a tool for social inclusion and labour integration (Erasmus+ 2022-2-PT02-KA220-YOU-000094042), which focused on Cultural Accessibility and Participation for vulnerable groups. The main objective was to design, implement, and evaluate innovative strategies to democratise access to culture, particularly among vulnerable populations, through a participatory and cross-sectoral methodology.

The project was developed within the framework of a transnational institutional alliance comprising cultural, academic, and social organisations, supported by European bodies. Its aim was to foster inclusive cultural practices through research, training, and the implementation of pilot actions. Success indicators were defined in relation to social impact, inclusive participation, and the transfer of good practices.

The methodological approach unfolded across seven key stages, beginning with the identification of the central problem—namely, the lack of equitable access to culture—and the definition of specific objectives. A collaborative consortium was established, target audiences were identified, and the "5W2H" method was applied to conduct a structured initial diagnosis. Data collection combined secondary sources (literature review, cultural policy analysis) with primary sources (surveys, interviews, and focus groups). Practical methodologies included participatory workshops and co-creation sessions. A detailed timeline guided the progressive development of the project.

The diagnostic phase included a thorough state-of-the-art review of inclusive cultural policies and a benchmarking of best practices in accessibility and participation. Notably, surveys targeted at key stakeholders within the cultural ecosystem helped identify structural, perceptual, and communicative barriers to cultural access. This analysis underpinned the design of context-sensitive and diversity-aware interventions.

The practical phase encompassed transnational training sessions and exchanges among project partners. A training plan was developed for cultural, educational, and social practitioners. Eight pilot projects were implemented in varied contexts: the ISA Game and Similarity Dynamics fostered intercultural empathy; Cultural Impulse and Which is Which? explored identity and inclusion; Five Senses approached access through sensory experience; while initiatives such as Braga25.PT, UBU Explores, and Gallery for All introduced innovations in accessible cultural mediation.

Qualitative results demonstrated significant progress in heritage and environmental education, inclusive cultural programming, and the strengthening of alliances between institutions and communities. The role of higher education as a bridge between culture and both social and labour inclusion was clearly evident, as was the importance of producing accessible content. At the quantitative level, the project documented increased participation from diverse audiences, improvements in institutional perceptions of inclusion, and effective knowledge transfer among the participating countries.

The report concludes that culture, when understood as a right and a tool for social transformation, can serve as a driver of cohesion, equity, and employability. It recommends institutionalising inclusive practices, promoting public policies geared towards cultural accessibility, and consolidating transnational collaboration networks. Furthermore, it advocates for continued evaluation of the long-term impact of the initiatives implemented.

10 años de la Unidad de Cultura Científica e Innovación de la Universidad de Burgos

This book commemorates ten years of activity by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the University of Burgos (UBU), from its establishment in November 2014 to 2024. Over the past decade, the UCC+i has become a benchmark in scientific communication, promoting science vocations among young people, and increasing the visibility of the knowledge produced at the university.
Structured into thematic sections, the book explores the origins of the UCC+i starting in 2000 with Science Weeks, leading to the formal creation of the unit and the development of major projects such as UBUinvestiga, La Estación de la Ciencia y la Tecnología, and a wide range of initiatives including contests, exhibitions, videos, events, researcher training, and social media actions. It includes data on impact, testimonials, a timeline of key milestones, annual summaries, and a record of all contributors involved in this journey.
With over 100 projects and activities featured, the book showcases the evolution of a cross-disciplinary strategy that combines science, technology, art, history, and public engagement. UBUinvestiga, as a multimedia channel, has played a key role in digital outreach, while La Estación has become an educational and training hub open to all citizens.
This volume is not only an institutional record but also a collective tribute to the collaborative work of over 40 people and partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations such as the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). The legacy of this decade stands as an inspiration for the future of scientific outreach at UBU and beyond.

English for a better tomorrow: practice through Sustainable Development Goals

English for a Better Tomorrow: English Practice through Sustainable Development Goals emerges from the service-learning project Sustainable English Teaching UBU-Bengaluru (SETUB), developed within the framework of the collaboration agreement between the University of Burgos and the NGO FIDESIndia Society. This initiative aligns with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and places sustainability at its core. Its main objective is to enhance the initial training of future teachers of English as a foreign language —currently students of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, Vocational Training, and Language Teaching at the University of Burgos, in Spain— by actively involving them in the development of teaching materials specifically designed for socially disadvantaged contexts.

Through the use of active learning methodologies in the classroom, these future educators have created innovative teaching resources that not only support the development of linguistic competence in English but also integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) applied to the field of education. As an outcome of this formative experience, the materials developed have been compiled into this open-access handbook, intended for use in classrooms both by English teachers within the Indian educational system and by any professional interested in language teaching through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

There are a significant number of computer systems for which different operating systems have been designed to make use of all of their components.

Furthermore, operating systems have evolved to become the intermediary between the user and the machine, relieving the user from the complexity of the hardware. As they have evolved, their different functionalities have been separated, among which the management of certain elements, such as processes and memory, stands out.

For their management, a series of algorithms have been developed that have evolved over time and are still constantly evolving.

However, the different functionalities of the operating system are based on concepts that, in many cases, remain constant throughout their evolution, although they are always directly dependent on the technology.

Therefore, the content of this publication is aimed at providing the reader with the ability to understand and apply these concepts through a series of tools that simulate the behavior of hardware and its management processes using different algorithms.

The two fundamental aspects to be developed will be Process Management and Non-Virtual Memory Management.

Furthermore, this publication will not attempt to explain in detail how each of the algorithms used works through theoretical explanations, except for some basic guidelines. Instead, it will attempt to provide examples of each and every one of the algorithms used, combining both aspects of management.

The tools have evolved with the collaboration of students in the first-year "Operating Systems" course of the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at the University of Burgos, between 2012 and 2024.

Regarding their development, they are implemented in Bash on Linux, with Linux chosen because it is the operating system used throughout the course, and Bash because it is one of the scripting languages used by Linux. This choice was not based on using the best operating system, nor on using the best programming language, but rather on using the resources most closely related to the subject, as it was defined at that time.

The areas of use of the tools and the corresponding documentation are for teaching purposes and student use in the course, to improve their understanding and facilitate their study, as well as in the professional field, to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each of the algorithms used.

The main objective is to provide a set of activities designed to facilitate the development, maintenance, and recovery of cognitive functions, particularly aimed at older adults, patients with brain injuries or mental health issues, individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders—especially young people and adults with intellectual disabilities—and other vulnerable groups. Its practical, inclusive, and evidence-based approach ensures effective application in stimulation and rehabilitation contexts. This manual not only enhances cognitive stimulation but also strengthens social interaction, self-esteem, and motivation among participants.

More than 200 activity sheets are presented, each including information about the primary cognitive function being worked on, the application mode (individual or group), instructions for execution, required materials and resources, and adjustable difficulty levels based on user needs.

The activities are grouped into seven sections, addressing key cognitive functions in neuropsychological intervention. In the attention block, word search puzzles, mazes, and visual discrimination tasks reinforce concentration and selective attention. In the memory block, episodic, semantic, and working memory are trained through exercises like reminiscence, associations, and recall strategies. The language section offers activities to improve oral and written expression and comprehension. The executive functions section includes exercises focused on planning, problem-solving, and decision-making. The perception section presents activities to identify, discriminate, and classify diverse sensory stimuli. The praxis section proposes motor coordination tasks and activities involving the planning and execution of simple or complex gestures or movements, performed on command or by imitation, with or without objects. This didactic proposal explores the historical, scientific, cultural, and ecological dimensions of fire through an interdisciplinary approach grounded in STEM education. It aims to promote both a conceptual understanding of scientific knowledge and a social and ethical connection between science and society, with a nature of STEM approach. In this sense, it aligns with the goals of critical scientific literacy, fostering an informed citizenry capable of making well-founded decisions in real and complex contexts, such as wildfires and climate change.

Throughout its chapters, the proposal examines the links between fire and humanity—from foundational myths to its central role in technological evolution, culture, and ecosystem development. Fire is presented not only as a physical and chemical phenomenon but also as a cultural symbol, a transformative tool, and an ecological agent. The contents span various disciplines: physics (thermal properties of fire, energy, and heat), chemistry (combustion reactions, fire triangle), biology (adaptations of plants and animals to fire regimes), history of science (phlogiston theory, contributions of Lavoisier), communication (risk reports, artistic representations), and engineering (technologies for prevention, detection, suppression, and ecological restoration). This thematic diversity enables fire to be addressed as a complex phenomenon from multiple perspectives, offering students an integrated view of scientific knowledge.

In terms of methodology, the proposal adopts an active and participatory approach. It includes real case studies of wildfires that allow students to analyze ecological succession and the long-term effects of fire on ecosystems. It is complemented by inquiry-based activities, artistic creation, and experiments adapted to the school context, as well as open debates that invite students to explore the symbolism of fire, its uses throughout human history, and its role in contemporary society. These methodologies seek to foster collaborative work, critical reflection, and the connection between school knowledge and real-world social issues.

In this way, an educational narrative is constructed that goes beyond risk and catastrophe to also highlight the regenerative and symbolic role of fire. The integrative approach of the proposal enables students not only to acquire relevant scientific knowledge but also to develop the skills needed to understand the complexity of the natural world and act responsibly within it. Ultimately, the aim is to educate individuals capable of inhabiting the world with knowledge, sensitivity, and commitment.

Mi escuela en el mundo

“My School in the World” is the result of collaborative work involving students from all educational levels, researchers from different countries and specialists from various professional fields.

This work includes 39 photographs related to education. The images are presented by the students of the Pedagogy Degree who searched for them. Afterwards, this proposal of the students serves as inspiration for specialists in different fields (education, journalism, photography...).

It also contains 39 drawings made by children from schools in Burgos (Spain) and from a school in Uganda. The drawings were based on phrases related to education.

All the photographs and drawings have a written description. The oral reading of the texts (descriptions and opinions of the specialists) has been conducted and recorded by students from diverse levels (from early childhood education to doctorate), including special education centers, adults and immigrant population.

As a whole, the book responds to the guidelines of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

“My School in the World” promotes a reflection on education and its importance in a world as diverse as ours. It does not seek to compare schools or countries with more or fewer resources, but rather to encourage readers to value and appreciate education as a powerful tool for development in any context.

Finally, readers are invited to participate actively in the project.

This work is a synthesis of the final products of the 360 REWIN project, Resilient Immigrant Women Interventions for Inclusion, and compiles the results in both English and Spanish. It is a transnational report that analyzes the main lines of socio-psychoeducational intervention with migrant women in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. The document synthesizes fieldwork with migrant women and the professionals who accompany them. It incorporates legislative indications, trends from the literature, lessons learned, and an analysis of a selection of best practices in the three countries.

This guide highlights the perceptions of migrant women about violence, their general and health needs, and the barriers they face. It also includes strategies to combat violence, the role of the mediator, the importance of professional training, and the institutional and legislative framework. Finally, recommendations are presented to support migrant women, promoting their integration and well-being in society

In most of the work, the first author (Horacio Lucero) recounts, in first person, his experience with Argentine patients affected by exposure to various types of pesticides, and his relentless search for scientific information to justify the range of pathologies generated as a result of such exposure. During this search, he interacted with other scientists, doctors, journalists, businesspeople, politicians, and non-governmental organizations, from whom he drew arguments for and against the hegemonic narrative imposed in a country historically known as the "breadbasket of the world."

By exploring the pages of this work, we will uncover the vast amount of scientific work that describes not only the damage to the genome of the exposed population, but also the pathways leading to associated pathologies. Furthermore, it details the unscrupulous manoeuvre aimed at concealing and distorting a truth that is increasingly evident throughout the planet and that makes the model based on the technological package, which combines genetically modified seeds with synthetic pesticides, environmentally unsustainable.

Is it possible that we are condemning entire generations with the justification of supposedly generating food for a constantly growing global population?

The second author (Darío Fernández Zoppino) thoroughly details the scientific knowledge that warns us about pesticides and their management as hazardous waste. Precisely such inadequate management and lack of oversight by state agencies have turned Argentina into an open-air experiment.

Finally, the third author (Juan Camarasa), an agribusiness expert, takes an in-depth look at a central question in this area: were the promises of ending world hunger, brought about by genetically modified foods and their associated pesticides, fulfilled? Since they were designed to increase production yields and use fewer chemicals to control pests, it is necessary to assess whether these objectives were met.

To do this, the free-use JavaScript-based H₅P software is used, whose resources allow the creation and reuse of interactive content as teaching support material. This resource is versatile and can be included in different e-Learning platforms such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas or Brightspace. The scenarios described refer to teaching resources in the fields of Health Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. This work includes the proceedings of the ‘1st International Conference on Early Intervention and Technology in the 21st Century. Multiplier event of the eEarlyCare-T project’ held at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Burgos on 2-3 October 2024. During the conference, the most significant advances in the field of early intervention were presented from the perspective of different disciplines (medicine, psychology, occupational therapy, computer engineering and computational science) using artificial intelligence technology. These advances are important for improving diagnostic and intervention processes in early care contexts. Of particular note were the opening lecture, given by Dr Francisco Alcantud Marín, Professor of Evolutionary Psychology at the University of Valencia, and the closing lecture, given by Dr Francisco José García Peñalvo, Professor of Computer Science and Automation and Director of the GRIAL Group at the University of Salamanca. There were also 148 participants from different universities, hospitals and health services, disability associations, educational services, clinics and rehabilitation centers and professional associations. The increasing frequency, intensity and duration of extreme weather events, worsened by climate change, demands critical and proactive citizens who can protect themselves and promote similar attitudes in society. These socio-scientific issues require an interdisciplinary approach, considering both scientific and social aspects. Secondary education is key to raising awareness and preparing students for these events. Within the framework of the project "The Nature of STEM for Citizenship Education," a didactic sequence was designed and validated in real classroom settings. It is structured into six blocks: extreme weather events, observation and prediction, modeling in science and meteorology, forecasting, complex systems, and nowcasting. The Easy-to-Read guide Consejos para hacer las actividades de la vida diaria después del cáncer de mama (Advice for daily activities after breast cancer) is divided into two volumes and is an Easy-to-Read adaptation of a previous work, Guía práctica para facilitar las actividades de la vida cotidiana después del cáncer de mama (Practice guideline for daily activities management after breast cancer, University of Burgos). This Easy-to-Read version has been carried out by the professionals of the Más Fácil service (Plena Inclusion Canarias). It aims to transmit fundamental recommendations on self-care after breast cancer to women with reading comprehension difficulties. For this reason, the volumes offer a wide range of guidelines in a clear and concise way, and with the necessary explanations to reach a wide audience. This guide complies with the guidelines and recommendations of the UNE 153101 EX Standard and has been validated by a professional validation team with reading comprehension difficulties and an extensive experience the Easy-to-Read methodology.

This work is the result of a study carried out by occupational therapists in a sample of more than 170 Spanish and Portuguese women on the limitations that may appear after having undergone cancer treatment for breast cancer. From this study, a series of daily activities were identified by the affected women as the most difficult to do in their daily lives.

For each activity, this Easy-to-Read guide offers a series of tips and suggestions, based on the occupational therapist's own knowledge, which can help to simplify the task and adapt it according to the symptomatology presented. Besides, different assistive devices that can help to carry out these activities are also shown.

The Easy-to-Read guide is designed so that each person can read those activities that are difficult for them to carry out and can include the changes that best suit their particular situation in their day-to-day life.

The thematic volume "Interaction, Discourse and Technology in the Teaching of Spanish" is a multidisciplinary compilation that addresses the challenges and advances in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language, second language and heritage language. It is organized along three main axes: interaction in learning, discourse in teaching and the integration of technology.

Interaction in Spanish language learning is highlighted as fundamental for linguistic acquisition. Interactional competences, dialogic genres and innovative group dynamics that foster effective interaction are examined, as well as the role of interactive feedback and evaluation in the development of learner autonomy.

Social inclusion in cultural participation: a systematic review

This work presents a systematic review aimed at addressing exclusion in cultural access, particularly for socially and/or intellectually vulnerable groups, in order to contribute to social inclusion and active participation. An exhaustive search was conducted in the Web of Science and Scopus databases, delving into 37 selected studies. Internationalization in the academic world allows transferring knowledge, thus enriching the cognitive abilities and transversal skills of students. This source of knowledge allows teachers to share experiences, increase work agreements between faculties and participate in other visions and learning models.

This book encapsulates several international academic experiences between faculties, companies and institutions from 6 countries (Germany, France, Japan, Portugal, Spain and USA) and 15 organizations. In total, 21 participants (academics, students and experts) from various disciplines.

The work is divided into chapters with individual or group narratives that recount the international experiences of professors and students who over the years have been collaborating with the Burgos University in different actions and commitments.

All this reveals internationalization as a way of tacit evaluation and continuous improvement of university educational models.

Low-cost assistive devices-highly customizable items- offer people with disabilities the possibility of improving their independence and quality of life; however, the design of these and their subsequent manufacture is quite complex, what make them not easy available. This book gathers the results of a teaching innovation experience carried out by three professors from the Burgos University. Based on the service-learning methodology (SL), students of the Occupational Therapy and Management Engineering Degrees have worked during three academic years to solve real problems (reported by associations of people with disabilities). Multidisciplinary teams have designed and manufactured products for people with disabilities using 3D printed technology. This book shows a catalog of them.

The book is a compendium of interdisciplinary collaborative work, transversal learning and community service; a task that combines the transfer of knowledge carried out by the teachers and the academic work that the students have developed through the SL methodology.

Education for fighting against gender discrimination and violence in the immigrant population: a systematic literature review

Migrant women are exposed to double vulnerability, as women and as migrants. This generates a demand for special personalized attention from professionals in the social, health and psychology fields in order to understand their needs. This work aims to understand the complexity of the migratory phenomenon in women in the scientific literature to establish the priority lines of support in university curricula. For this, a systematic review is presented that finally analyzes 63 documents. The study has three search phases in Web of Science and Scopus databases. In the first phase, the terms that are considered are "gender discrimination" AND "Violence" AND "migrant", selecting six items; a second block includes "gender discrimination" AND "migrant”, adding 40 items, and the third block, "gender discrimination" AND "Violence" OR "migrant" AND "education" AND “intervention” AND "women, where 17 new articles are selected.

The results show seven emerging categories according to their central theme: legal, social, development & market, health, integration, gender discrimination and intervention. The study presents a discussion for each category, converging on the relevance of the need to raise awareness among the population as a whole. The study attempts to focus interest on priority lines of intervention, among which the following stand out: health care in general, sexual education, the expansion of social networks in the destination, the search for job opportunities, access to technology or the promotion of healthy living and physical activity. This analysis converges on the need for institutions to provide resources to people who suffer gender-based violence of any kind, emphasizing the migrant population, since fewer cases are institutionalized. For this reason, it is also relevant to provide resources to professionals who work with this social group.

Such an important anniversary served as a framework for the reflection of numerous researchers who have contributed to this volume, entitled Stone by Stone: The Construction of Early Modern History in the Shadow of the Cathedrals. The promotion of healthy lifestyle habits and the integral well-being of citizens is an objective solidly shared by university institutions in the exercise of their social responsibility. The University of Burgos (UBu), member of the Spanish Network of Healthy Promoting Universities (REUPS), contributes, with incremental force, to SDG 3 - Health and Well-being of the 2030 Agenda, aimed at guaranteeing a healthy life, and promoting well-being for all regardless of age. According to the Social Responsibility Report of the University of Burgos 2021 and the lines of action of the Healthy Campus Aula of the UBu, this objective, extendable to local, regional, state, and global health entities, is articulated in the design, execution and evaluation of intentionally oriented projects and programs. In the exercise of its responsibility related to the transfer of knowledge and innovation, this guide offers in a pioneering way a broad and select set of good practices for the promotion of healthy habits in the Ibero-American university context, reflecting the intense activity developed in the countries participating in its selection.

Guía para evaluar el riesgo y la prevención en atmósferas explosivas en el sector de la madera

Este estudio tiene como objetivo servir de herramienta para identificar la mayor o menor peligrosidad del polvo generado en la transformación de la madera en la industria.

Este polvo es capaz de generar lo que se conoce como atmósferas explosivas (ATEX), lo cual sucede cuando existen sustancias inflamables que, mezcladas con el aire y en condiciones atmosféricas, pueden encenderse si entran en contacto con una fuente de ignición y la combustión se propaga a la totalidad de la mezcla.

Conocer en profundidad las características del polvo que influyen en su peligrosidad respecto a la formación de atmósferas explosivas permite ayudar a los profesionales de la industria de la madera y a los técnicos de prevención, para que se tomen las medidas de prevención adecuadas.

En esta guía se van a establecer qué parámetros y condiciones resultan determinantes en la clasificación de los distintos tipos de polvo en función de su probabilidad para provocar una explosión. De este modo, será posible tomar una muestra de polvo, analizar sus características y determinar si generará o no una atmósfera explosiva en unas condiciones concretas.

Para ello se han realizado pruebas de explosividad, se han determinado temperaturas de ignición en nube y en capa (TMI_nube y TMI_capa), y concentraciones mínimas de ignición, se han llevado a cabo ensayos calorimétricos (TGA y DSC) y se han tomado imágenes mediante microscopía electrónica de barrido, con cámara lenta y también con cámara termográfica. Con todos estos datos se ha establecido que las características más importantes de las que depende que se produzca o no la formación de una atmósfera explosiva son el tamaño medio de las partículas del polvo de una muestra, su humedad y su estructura microscópica.

Con este trabajo se aportan distintos gráficos y tablas que permiten conocer la peligrosidad del polvo de madera facilitando la evaluación de riesgos en la industria y sirviendo como complemento del Documento de Protección Contra Explosiones, de forma que sea posible reducir la siniestralidad y así evitar daños tanto personales como materiales.

La presente guía se ha elaborado con el fin de ayudar a los profesionales de la industria de la madera y a los técnicos de prevención, para que conozcan el comportamiento del polvo de madera ya que, en determinadas condiciones, explota.

La dislexia es una Dificultad Específica del Aprendizaje (DEA) que afecta principalmente a la capacidad lectora, aunque también puede manifestarse en la escritura. Su prevalencia se estima entre 5% y el 15%. Este libro electrónico describe los hallazgos de un estudio sobre el uso de la tecnología en el tratamiento y apoyo a estudiantes que presentan estas dificultades en diferentes países partipantes en el Proyecto Europeo Erasmus+ FORDYSVAR (España, Italia, Rumanía y Portugal). Además, incluye un banco de recursos educativos que pueden utilizarse como apoyo en la lectoescritura.

Abstract

Dyslexia is a Specific Learning Difficulty (DEA) that mainly affects reading ability, although it can also manifest itself in writing. Its worldwide prevalence is estimated between 5% and 15%. This electronic book describes the findings of a Delphi study on the use of technology in the treatment and support of students with these difficulties in different countries (Spain, Italy, Romania and Portugal). Finally, a list of educational resources that can be used to support reading and writing is included.

Tras varias ediciones por diferentes ciudades y universidades españolas, el XIV Congreso de Ingeniería del Transporte (CIT 2021) recae en Burgos (España) en 2021. El CIT 2021 forma parte de una serie de congresos que se inició en Sevilla (1993), y tiene periodicidad bianual desde Madrid (1996), promovido por el Foro de Ingeniería de los Transportes (FIT). En el caso del año 2020, debido a la crisis del COVID-19, se pospuso la XIV edición al año 2021, que finalmente se realizó en modalidad online. La organización de XIV Congreso de Ingeniería del Transporte ha estado a cargo del Grupo de Investigación en Logística e Ingeniería del Transporte de la Universidad de Burgos. Desde hace unos años, la ciudad de Burgos prepara el VIII Centenario de la colocación de la primera piedra de la Seo burgalesa que culminará en 2021. La presente obra surgió teniendo en cuenta este hito histórico y cultural, por ello incluye un importante volumen de trabajos de investigación que reflejan el gran número de perspectivas desde las que se puede estudiar la Historia Moderna "a la sombra de las catedrales". Para una mejor articulación de la obra, esta se ha dividido en dos secciones. La primera de estas lleva por título "A la sombra de las catedrales: religión, cultura y sociedad" e incluye estudios relacionados con las diversas facetas de la vida de las ciudades catedralicias: religiosidad, de actividad cultural, económica, asistencial, desarrollo de las corporaciones gremiales y las cofradías, etc. La segunda sección "De la Monarquía hispánica de los Austrias a la Monarquía española de los Borbones: riqueza, poder y guerra" contiene estudios relacionados con los debates historiográficos más actuales y, al mismo tiempo un análisis de cuáles fueron los factores necesarios para alcanzar esa posición: los recursos, los medios, los instrumentos para el gobierno de tan vastos dominios (humanos, materiales, religiosos, etc.). La reflexión se extenderá también a todos los cambios que se produjeron en el siglo XVIII tras la llegada de la dinastía Borbón.

En muchas industrias se emplean fluidos en los procesos de producción. Estos fluidos, sean líquidos, gases o mezclas de ambos, se almacenan en depósitos y se transportan por conductos en las instalaciones industriales. El volumen que cada kilogramo de fluido ocupa en estas instalaciones puede variar si también lo hacen su presión y temperatura. Encontrar esta interdependencia entre presión, volumen y temperatura resulta crucial para dimensionar depósitos y conductos. Conocer la relación matemática que expresa la interdependencia física de estas tres propiedades es esencial en ingeniería. En este libro veremos de modo experimental la interdependencia que presentan las propiedades presión, volumen y temperatura en fluidos. Lo haremos a través un caso práctico. Modelos estructurales de cristales inorgánicos. De los elementos a los compuestos

El modelo de enlace iónico, generalmente aceptado, no ha permitido ni describir ni comprender las estructuras que adoptan los compuestos inorgánicos. En esta obra, el autor expone las limitaciones del modelo iónico y propone nuevos conceptos como la relación entre Oxidación-Presión, el Concepto de Zintl-Klemm Extendido aplicado a las subredes catiónicas de los óxidos. Estos nuevos conceptos, junto al modelo de O´Keeffe y Hyde, el concepto de isolobularidad y la equivalencia entre pares de electrones y aniones óxido, permite comprender las estructuras inorgánicas. La gran cantidad de ellas discutidas en el texto, son descritas como "aleaciones reales rellenas de oxígeno" en las que las estructuras de los elementos o aleaciones constituyentes perviven en una matriz de oxígeno. Las estructuras elementales son, pues, la clave para comprender estructuras más complejas.
