En las últimas décadas, los valores europeos se han convertido en un elemento central del discurso institucional, de los marcos normativos y de los relatos educativos. Sin embargo, su significado, coherencia y relevancia social están siendo cada vez más cuestionados. Aunque con frecuencia se presentan como fundamentos morales compartidos, estos valores parecen progresivamente desvinculados de las competencias sociales, de las experiencias cotidianas de la ciudadanía y de las responsabilidades colectivas, al tiempo que se aproximan cada vez más a racionalidades económicas, lógicas de gestión y prioridades orientadas al mercado.
Este eBook surge de la convicción de que Europa se enfrenta en la actualidad a un momento decisivo. La distancia entre los valores proclamados y la realidad social ha dejado de ser una preocupación teórica para convertirse en una fuente tangible de desafección política, fragmentación social e incertidumbre identitaria. En este contexto, la construcción de una identidad europea significativa e inclusiva no puede reducirse a marcos jurídicos ni a la integración económica; exige una revisión profunda de los valores que supuestamente la sustentan.
Desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar que integra la educación, el derecho, la sociología y el análisis político, este volumen pretende explorar de manera crítica qué son los valores europeos, cómo se han construido y cómo se interpretan y aplican en la actualidad. Lejos de ofrecer una definición cerrada o prescriptiva, el eBook aspira a abrir un espacio de reflexión, diálogo y debate, cuestionando los relatos dominantes y analizando las tensiones existentes entre ideales, prácticas y estructuras de poder.
En última instancia, esta obra se concibe como una invitación: una invitación a repensar los valores europeos más allá de los eslóganes, a reconectarlos con la responsabilidad social, las competencias cívicas y el bienestar colectivo, y a contribuir a una Europa más consciente, democrática y resiliente en un mundo cada vez más complejo e incierto.
